Gain a greater understanding of Indian law and policy from DC experts!
On this 6-day/5-night program, students learn and explore the connection between U.S. and Native American history. Focused on giving students the skills and attitudes they need to advocate for issues important to them and their tribes, this program provides students with a first-hand look at the American political system and how it relates to current issues facing the American Indian community. On Close Up, students have the opportunity to:
- Hear from DC policymakers on native issues at a Native Issues Seminar;
- Explore our nation’s front lawn and discuss Native American impact on war efforts at the War Memorials on the National Mall;
- Visit the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian and examine the ways in which American Indians have been part of the nation’s identity since before the country began; and
- Debate the most pressing issues facing our nation in a Mock Congress.
Participation in a Close Up program requires parent or guardian approval for any participants under 18 years of age.
