Journey to the past and experience 18th-century colonial life.

On this 7-day/6-night program, students gain a greater understanding of the historical relationship between the citizens and government of the United States. Through visits to two of America’s oldest cities, students learn how our nation’s past impacts our present. On Close Up, students have the opportunity to:

  • Discover Virginia’s colonial history through a walking tour of Williamsburg;
  • See the Capitol where Patrick Henry convinced the Virginia delegates to vote for independence;
  • Dine in one of Williamsburg’s rustic taverns located in the heart of the Revolutionary City;
  • Discuss current events with policy experts, lawmakers, and members of Congress or their staff; and
  • Engage in meaningful discussions with peers from around the country and debate the most pressing issues facing our nation in a Mock Congress.

Participation in a Close Up program requires parent or guardian approval for any participants under 18 years of age.
